How We Support Care Providers and Their Clients

At WellMama, we recognize the importance of care providers in the lives of pregnant and postpartum people and their families. That’s why we provide perinatal mood disorders training and support to providers. We’re here to help you see as many clients as possible while providing in-depth, high-quality care.

Help Screening for Perinatal Mood Disorders

We can help you screen patients for perinatal mood disorders, saving you time so you can see more clients throughout the day while still providing quality care. As part of their check-in paperwork, you may provide clients with a copy of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). You can print the EPDS or direct clients to our online version. After the appointment, fax the printed EPDS to us at 541-344-1737. One of our volunteers will follow up with clients and direct them to appropriate resources if needed.

Professional Training in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders

Training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders is essential in caring for new and expectant parents. WellMama offers various training options for medical, mental health, and community service offices and/or groups. Basic 30-minute overview presentations are free, and cover:

  • Basic signs and symptoms of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
  • Basic overview of screening and treatment options
  • How to talk to people experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
  • WellMama’s services and how to refer to us

90-minute presentations take a deeper dive into the science of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, providing a comprehensive training on risks, prevention, and treatment tailored to your specific field of practice. For these more in-depth training opportunities, a donation to WellMama is requested but not required. We will cover all of the basics PLUS:

  • Psychological and physiological mechanisms, plus the impact of cultural, social, and situational factors
  • How these disorders are different from those manifesting in the non-perinatal period
  • Research updates for evidence-based care relevant to your particular field

To schedule an in-service, please complete an in-service request form.

We also recommend all providers who work with pregnant or postpartum people to attend our annual Perinatal Mental Health Summit, which is a two-day conference highlighting the latest research and clinical practices in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
