Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale

Help Screening for Perinatal Mood Disorders

We can help you screen patients for perinatal mood disorders, saving you time so you can see more clients throughout the day while still providing quality care. As part of their check-in paperwork, you may provide clients with a copy of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). You can print the EPDS or direct clients to our online version. After the appointment, fax the printed EPDS to us at 541-344-1737. The online EPDS goes directly into our database. One of our volunteers will follow up with clients and direct them appropriate resources, if needed.

Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale

The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) is a ten-item questionnaire developed to identify women who have postpartum depression. Items of the scale correspond to various clinical depression symptoms, such as guilt, sleep disturbance, low energy, anhedonia, and suicidal ideation. Overall assessment is viewed by the total score, determined by adding together the scores for each of the ten items. The EPDS may be used during pregnancy and within eight weeks postpartum.
